SCSC TRANSPORTATION VISION/MOTTO: SAFETY FIRST!

AT SCSC ALL BUS TRANSPORTATION is based on the student(s) primary home address. Approved bus riders are offered one consistent morning (AM) bus stop & one consistent afternoon (PM) bus stop. (The only exception applies to students who regularly alternate between separate households on a full-week basis, Monday-Friday full flips.-contact Transportation office for more details) 

• 6th - 12th GRADES RIDE TOGETHER ON 1ST LOAD DAILY
• K - 5th GRADES RIDE TOGETHER ON 2ND LOAD DAILY

>IN-DISTRICT BUS RIDERS can ride to other in-district addresses-if bus capacity allows for extra riders. 

>OUT-OF-DISTRICT BUS RIDERS can only ride the bus to and from student(s) primary home address and only if the primary home address falls within board approved out of district routes. 

• Out of district students will not be allowed to ride to or from in-district addresses on other bus routes. (The only exception for ODT’s is if riding to or from state licensed in-town daycare business and if bus capacity allows) 
• The ODT form states: Transportation of a transfer student is the parent’s responsibility. SCSC will only provide transportation to ODT students if the home address is within the ODT Board approved routes.

>PLEASE HAVE YOUR STUDENT AT THE ASSIGNED BUS STOP 5 MINUTES PRIOR & 5 MINUTES AFTER (10-minute window) their designated pick up time to anticipate early/Late school bus arrivals due to unforeseen circumstances.

>A BUS STOP COULD BE DISCONTINUED if the student(s) has not ridden the bus consecutively for 5 school days unless prior arrangements have been made. To resume transportation please call the School or Transportation Department to request bus service.

>FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL STUDENTS- non-students, including parents, are not permitted on a school bus without explicit consent form school officials. Entering without permission constitutes criminal trespass, a class D Felony. (I.C. 35-43-2-2)

>TRANSPORTATION CHANGES may only be requested to: 

•  Same day change needs can only be modified from bus rider to a car rider (schools request this is done by 2PM daily to have time to make the modification), or
• Make a permanent bus transportation change for the remainder of the school year, which requires a 48 hour notice prior to the change taking place. Please contact the Transportation office or school office to do so.
• NO TEMPORARY BUS PASSES ARE ALLOWED
• FOR EMERGENCY TRANSPORTATION NEEDS CALL 812-248-7111 (please note this will only be considered for a true urgent/emergency need)

>PM DROP OFF FOR K-5TH GRADE STUDENTS require a person 6th grade or older to be visual daily for the bus driver to see in the afternoons to ensure students are dropped off properly for safety reasons. *That person has to either live in the household or be attached to the quick contacts list in the students IC account. (A google form will be sent out just before school starts to be filled out for 5th grade students to go home w/o someone outside. Students in 4th grade will also be considered but approval will be handled individually and will be based on sight lines of the bus driver & location of bus stops. *Important: Younger siblings of approved 4th/5th graders will still need someone 6th grade or older to be outside to get them off the bus as this would only apply to those individual students in those grade levels that are approved.) 

>SPED TRANSPORTATION RIDERS must have a designated, responsible greeter (designated by parent/guardian) at the stop when the bus arrives to drop off daily.

>TO PRESERVE THE SAFETY & WELFARE OF STUDENT RIDERS it is imperative that all students obey the rules of the bus, the bus driver, and the school.  The school bus is considered an extension of the school day. All school rules apply.  Cell phone usage on a school bus will be at the bus driver, coach, teacher, or school officials discretion.
